So...today was my day off, but I found out that my editor told the night crew in the newsroom that "Our intern is rocking this section."
So good to hear! Some feedback on how I'm doing, and it's good. That kind of gave me a boost and I now have the momentum to start doing bigger, better things.
Did I mention that the entire local section was all my work? And my story on the water park was the dominant on the special section front? Yeah, definitely cool.
Video should be up Monday - I've worked my butt off on it all week, so now comes the editing part.

What's fair is Fair
LONG day today.
PART I: Got up at 7:30. Got to the fairgrounds at 9:30, covered my first-ever cow and dairy show where kids parade their cows around for trophies and other such prizes, and don't forget the notoriety! My sources told me it's supposed to build character and responsibility for the kids involved. So I went back to the newsroom at 1 and wrote the story.
PART II: Went back up to the fairgrounds at 4:30 and got some shots around the place, then I went to cover the doggie fashion show. It was cute, and it's a quaint little secondary story. I went through some of the tents and this guy who tried to get me to register to vote even though I was already registered to vote tried to argue politics with me. I told him I can't say anything because I'm on the job. After much heat outside and a hamburger I bought for 3 bucks, it was time to rush back to the newsroom to write up the second story.
PART III: So it had already been a super long day, but I lugged the camera out again and went back to the fairgrounds where it was more busy than ever. I walked around looking for good shots and finally planted myself in front of a hefty ride, went to check my white balance annnnd....my battery was dead. Lesson learned? Never leave the newsroom without checking your battery life.

My fear of large farm animals
My fear of large farm animals was challenged today - went to cover the 4-H fairs and was inches away from pigs, cows, horses, turkeys, chickens, bunnies and goats.
Needless to say it was interesting, but I think the fair really encompasses what the county is all about. This is what people look forward to - oh yeah, and there's food there too :)
Camera's heavy and having a bit of trouble getting back into the groove of videoing, but I think this exercise will be really good for me.
