LONG day today.
PART I: Got up at 7:30. Got to the fairgrounds at 9:30, covered my first-ever cow and dairy show where kids parade their cows around for trophies and other such prizes, and don't forget the notoriety! My sources told me it's supposed to build character and responsibility for the kids involved. So I went back to the newsroom at 1 and wrote the story.
PART II: Went back up to the fairgrounds at 4:30 and got some shots around the place, then I went to cover the doggie fashion show. It was cute, and it's a quaint little secondary story. I went through some of the tents and this guy who tried to get me to register to vote even though I was already registered to vote tried to argue politics with me. I told him I can't say anything because I'm on the job. After much heat outside and a hamburger I bought for 3 bucks, it was time to rush back to the newsroom to write up the second story.
PART III: So it had already been a super long day, but I lugged the camera out again and went back to the fairgrounds where it was more busy than ever. I walked around looking for good shots and finally planted myself in front of a hefty ride, went to check my white balance annnnd....my battery was dead. Lesson learned? Never leave the newsroom without checking your battery life.
Keeping you posted,
Joan
